I tweeted during Olympics Questions yesterday, asking if someone had been sick on Tessa Jowell.

    This is what I meant:

    Sort it out, Mr Speaker!

    …Gordon Brown made these ones.

I felt very sorry for Jacqui Janes when I read about the letter she received below. It must have been terrible for her.

Her son Jamie Janes, a Grenadier Guardsman, died in Afghanistan in October.

Gordon Brown has apologised for the mistakes.

We all make mistakes sometimes – I know I have made errors writing letters in the past.

But why on earth wasn’t a letter this important checked first?

I tweeted live from the Bexley Council Chamber last night as we met for the last Full Council meeting of 2009. My tweets are below:

mattscottuk: Battery died. But Conservatives pledged to freeze cllr allowances for four years if re-elected #Bexley

mattscottuk: Recycling debate still ongoing #Bexley

mattscottuk: My battery may well run out now! Find out about tonight’s meeting here: http://is.gd/4NeNf #Bexley

mattscottuk: Motions now, Cllr Tandy up first on Bexley's excellent recycling record #Bexley

mattscottuk: Welling dispersal zone having a good effect #Bexley

mattscottuk: Questions from cllrs to Cabinet Members now #Bexley

mattscottuk: CCTV for Crayford! Local cllrs successful campaign leads to Conservative manifesto commitment for 2010 #Bexley

mattscottuk: Questions from members of public now – community safety, Bexleyheath regeneration, and Ian Clement #Bexley

mattscottuk: Receiving petitions from Cllrs Marriner, Craske and Windle on ward issues #Bexley

mattscottuk: Extraordinary council meeting done, and had a presentation about Demelza House #Bexley

As you will see, two very important election promises announced for 2010. If re-elected, a Conservative Council would freeze councillors allowances for four years, and introduce CCTV in Crayford.

    More announcements in due course…

  • Gordon Brown to resign?

Sorry for the tease. Unfortunately, he says he’s staying (for now).

Over 72,000 signed a Downing Street petition calling for him to resign.

I’ve just had the feeble response to the petition, which you can read here.

Click here to read the Party briefing and Cameron’s speech on Europe this afternoon (hat tip ConHome).

    The key points:

We will put in place a referendum lock, so never again can a British government transfer powers to the EU without the people giving their consent in a referendum.

We will enact a United Kingdom Sovereignty Bill, making clear that ultimate authority rests with our Parliament.

And we will negotiate for a specific set of British guarantees that are realistic, deliverable – and essential.

I’d add one more to that last line – sensible.

    From today’s Sun.

Never forget that it’s Gordon Brown’s signature on the Treaty.

    Britain: Betrayed by Labour. Again.

  • Boris to the rescue!

    Tags: Boris is a legend

    From Paul Waugh:

Climate change activist Franny Armstrong (who directed The Age of Stupid) was walking home in Camden Town when she was surrounded by a hoodied girl gang.

She says she was pushed against a car by the girls, one of whom had an iron bar. She called out for help to a passing cyclist, who turned out to be…Boris.

The Mayor stopped and chased the girls down the street, calling them “oiks”. He then returned and insisted on walking her home.

Legend! As Paul goes on to say, he even got a good quote he could use on his election posters.

    So, people of London…

“If you find yourself down a dark alleyway and in trouble I think Boris would be of more use than Ken”.
